The internal arts are not as simply categorized as is the case when discussing external arts which are largely classified as various systems of kungfu. The most well known of the internal arts today is the practice of taijiquan (tai chi quan). It is not however, the only system of internal arts in Chinese martial arts. In addition to Taiji are the systems of xingyiquan, baguazhang, and liuhebafa. Each of these falls into this category of internal arts because of the fundamental concepts of bodily alignment, symmetry and a study of a use of the bodies qi (energy) as a means to express the various movements.
